What CINQ is

CINQ (“we”, “us”) is a social network for watching movies and television with other people, available at cinq.watch. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

  • Account details: name, email address, username, password (stored only as a salted hash), and an optional bio and profile photo.
  • Sign-in with Google or Facebook: if you choose social sign-in, we receive your name, email address, the provider’s account identifier, and your profile picture. We do not receive or store your Google or Facebook password, and we do not post on your behalf.
  • What you watch and share: the streaming services you tell us you have, titles you mark as watched, watching or want-to-watch, ratings, watch history you import, posts, comments, likes, channels, recommendations, and direct messages.
  • Video calls: audio and video travel directly between participants’ devices (peer-to-peer). We store only who was in a call and when, plus the short-lived connection messages needed to set the call up. We do not record calls.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser type, and basic request logs kept by our hosting provider for security and reliability.

How we use it

  • To run the service: your profile, feed, recommendations, messages and calls.
  • To personalise: what you watch shapes your picks and who we suggest you follow.
  • To keep CINQ safe: preventing abuse, spam and unauthorised access.
  • To talk to you about your account. We do not send marketing email without your consent.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not access your streaming accounts. Watch history comes only from files or lists you import yourself and from what you mark in CINQ.
  • We do not use Google or Facebook data for advertising.

Who can see what

Your profile, posts, watch activity and stats are visible to other CINQ members. Direct messages are visible only to the people in the conversation. Video calls are visible only to people in the call or with its invite link.

Third parties we rely on

  • Vercel hosts the application. Neon hosts the database.
  • TMDB (The Movie Database) supplies film and TV information. Searches you make are sent to TMDB without your identity.
  • YouTube supplies trailers embedded in the feed, under YouTube’s own terms.
  • Google and Facebook provide optional sign-in, under their own privacy policies.

Retention and deletion

We keep your information while your account exists. You can edit your profile at any time in Settings. To delete your account and its data, email hello@cinq.watch from your account email and we will remove it within 30 days. You can also disconnect Google or Facebook access from your Google or Facebook account settings at any time.

Cookies

We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in, and a short-lived cookie during social sign-in to protect against forged requests. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Children

CINQ is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we change this policy in a meaningful way we will update the date above and, where appropriate, tell you in the app.
